Looking back, observing ourselves in the early days of writing and observing ourselves today, at the level we have reached and any goals achieved makes us understand whether there has been progress or not. A retrospective that shows us how far we have come, how many mistakes we have left behind, how many more we still make, what the future may hold for us. What has changed in us since we started writing or, better yet, since we fully understood this passion of ours, since we started to get serious, to write with one goal in mind, that of publishing? A lot has changed in me. I take inspiration from an old post that appeared on Notes in the margins to observe my progress and the mistakes I continue to make. My 5 phases of writing Come to think of it, I think I've gone through 5 phases in my passion for writing .
Childhood phase : I dreamed of writing books, I wrote down the titles and cover drafts in a diary. I mentioned it a while ago. There was a science fiction novel called Science Fiction: 3000 era, there was a dramatic one about American slavery called Bis videor mori , I also remember Animals and plants: science goes forward , a post-apocalyptic novel which sees Special Data sentient animals and plants take the reins of the Earth after the man's disappearance. We were in the 70s. When I was a kid and daydreamed. Immature phase : the first stories were born from the first readings. A boring first-person pseudo-fantasy story, a horror story, plus other attempts that came to nothing. The first fantasy novel project was born in this era ( Mohr's Heir , but I don't really remember who Mohr was...). It was the early 80s. Emulation phase : after reading the complete works of Lovecraft I dedicated myself to writing about twenty horror stories , some even splatter, two prose poems, one or two science fiction.
I fed them to my girlfriend, who corrected them for me. I wrote a short novel in diary form, The Iron Throne , a dramatic story of a street child who becomes a criminal, up to its epilogue in the electric chair. It was the first half of the 90s. Research phase : we are in the 2000s. After a long break I start writing again and I do it thanks to two writing forums, where you could participate in story competitions. I don't remember at all how the desire to write returned to me and how I found those forums. The first failures arrived, but in the end I produced something acceptable, I won a competition and also earned a place in the small anthology of short films published by Edizioni XII. Maturity phase : the current one. Why is maturity? Certainly not because I consider myself mature in writing, but because I feel more self-critical, perhaps even too much, and because my pessimism and negativity lead me to reject everything I write. However, the first book published by a publisher arrives, even if it is not fiction.
